Information Collection and Use
MenuGuide has no user accounts: we do not ask for your name, email address or phone number to use the app. Your saved menus, history and settings are stored on your device. The data that does leave your device is described below.
Menu Photos and AI Processing
When you scan a menu, the photo is uploaded to MenuGuide's server and then processed by AI model providers solely to read and translate that menu: Google Gemini, accessed through OpenRouter, and — if that service is unavailable — OpenAI. Together with the photo we send the language and currency you chose, the country you are in (if known, see below) and any allergies or dietary preferences you set in the app, so the translation can flag matching dishes. Since version 1.6 the app asks for your permission before the first photo is sent, and you can withdraw it at any time in Settings.
When you open a dish's details, the dish name and your language are sent to OpenAI to write the description. To show pictures of dishes, dish names (never your photo) are used to search for images through a web image search service.
Retention. Uploaded menu photos are stored on our server as files that are not linked to your name, an account or an advertising identifier. We keep the translated menu text to monitor translation quality. We do not use your photos for advertising and we do not sell them. To have a photo removed, email info@menuguide.app with the approximate date and time of the scan.

Location
If you allow location access, the app reads a low-accuracy position only while it is open and turns it into a country code using your phone's built-in geocoding service (Apple or Google). Only the country code leaves the app: it is sent with your scans and dish lookups so currencies and regional dishes are recognised correctly, and it is stored as a subscription attribute in RevenueCat. Without location permission the app works normally.
Third-Party Services
The app and website use the following third-party services, which may collect information used to identify you. Links lead to their privacy policies:
Advertising identifiers. On iPhone and iPad, the app uses your device's advertising identifier for ad attribution only if you allow it in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt; you can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. On Android, the advertising ID may be used for ad attribution; you can reset or delete it in your device's Google settings.
